Beautiful, unspoilt, old-fashioned France

The Romans arrived in the Drôme nearly two thousand years ago, and the region has seen plenty of change since. Over the centuries, its people faced harsh lives, enduring disease, conflict, drought, floods, and famine. Life has transformed dramatically in the last hundred years, with less lavender, fewer vineyards, depopulation, and areas returning to forest. Ruined fortified châteaux from the Middle Ages still stand, alongside abandoned farm buildings from more recent times. Churches and other notable buildings survive from the 11th century onwards.

On our walks, we explore some of the Drôme’s ancient towns and villages, uncovering how life has evolved over the centuries. We also discover the region today, sampling local produce and visiting bustling village markets.

A perfect time to visit

We never forget that the Vercors is a stunning region for walking, with dramatic mountains and beautiful alpine meadows. Our walks take you to some truly wonderful locations, using the minibus to handle the climbs, while we follow gentle flat or undulating trails, with rewarding views and the chance to see wildflowers, butterflies, and other wildlife.

At the end of each day, there’s always time for a refreshing swim, a cup of tea, or a glass of wine.

June is an ideal time to visit—sunflowers and lavender are coming into bloom along the valley, and the long, sunny evenings are perfect for dining outdoors.
