A walkers’ paradise

In May and June, before the summer heat sets in, the landscape is green and vibrant, and the crystal-clear rivers, home to beavers and kingfishers, rush with life and abundant fish. September and October bring a different, equally captivating season. The intense high-summer heat has faded, leaving crisp mornings and long, sunlit afternoons beneath deep blue skies. Foliage takes on warm shades—gold, russet, and deep green—while the air carries the subtle, dry scent of sun-baked earth. These months are ideal for longer walks: cooler temperatures make hill climbs more comfortable, and the light is often clear and forgiving, perfect for photography.

The surrounding hills and mountains offer a network of trails for every level of walker, from gentle rambles to more demanding ridge routes. Paths wind through mixed forests, open pastures, and high meadows, each rich in wildlife.

To the north, the Vercors National Park features dramatic alpine meadows and limestone plateaus. In late spring, these meadows burst into bloom—orchids, gentians, and a carpet of alpine grasses—while panoramic views extend toward the distant, snow-capped Alps.

Guiding expertise

We take five easy to moderate day walks to explore the area; the pace is relaxed, allowing you and your fellow travellers time to take photographs and savour the views. There will also be opportunities to visit other points of interest - charming villages, local markets, and nearby attractions. You will experience the very best this beautiful region has to offer, and by choosing a guided walking holiday, you can be confident that all the planning and logistics have been taken care of.

In the evenings, unwind with a dip in the pool, a glass of wine on the terrace, and enjoy a delicious four-course meal prepared by our chef while admiring the stunning views. Guided walking holidays in France like this are rare: the group size is small, the guide knows the region intimately, and the location is exceptional. It’s no surprise we welcome many repeat bookings for this holiday.
