The Drome and Ardeche

The Drôme department sits at the meeting point of Alpine and Mediterranean climates, giving us the best of both worlds: breathtaking mountains to the north and east, warm Provençal sunlight and clear blue skies to the south, and dramatic vineyards in the Rhône Valley to the west.

It’s not just about the scenery—we also explore the rich heritage and history of the region. We are close to the extraordinary Grotte Chauvet, where 36,000-year-old cave paintings were discovered just 25 years ago. In Vercors National Park, we learn about the Maquis, the French Resistance, and their role in the Second World War. Further south, in Grignan, we visit the beautiful château set in a glorious landscape, and throughout the week we explore ancient villages steeped in history.

Your bilingual guide, who has spent most of his life in the Drôme, brings his stories to life—with a touch of his Irish accent—and shares his wealth of knowledge throughout the week.

A warm welcome

You will stay at a tranquil, family-run hotel in Saillans, celebrated as much for its excellent cuisine as for its warm hospitality—a true home from home. Each evening, enjoy a delicious four-course meal, freshly prepared with local ingredients, paired with some of the region’s finest wines.

Fascinating and unforgettable, this remarkable region is ready to be explored.
